  • Keep it to one page- only include things that are relevant to the job you are applying for
  • Make the formatting simple- basic and easy to read fonts are always best
  • Don’t forget to include any volunteer, part-time, or freelance work you have done
  • Save it as a PDF- this makes sure the formatting won’t get messed up when the hiring manager opens it
  • Leave out pronouns such as “I” or “me”
  • Bad GPA? Simply leave it out, and concentrate on your workplace accomplishments



  • Get a professional head shot of yourself taken for your profile picture
  • Make sure all your information is public
  • Customize your profile URL by going to Settings > Edit Public Profile > Customize Your Public Profile URL
  • When trying to make a connection with someone, add a personal message to help remind them of how they know you
  • Don’t forget to write a short description of yourself and your interests
  • Join Groups to keep up with what is happening in your industry or area of interest

Networking Events

  • Bring business cards to give out
  • Make good introductions- solid handshake, eye contact, and remember their name
  • Focus on making a few solid connections rather than spreading yourself too thin
  • A few days after the event, don’t forget to send follow up emails to anyone that you would like to continue networking with
